History

​

The county was founded in 1850 and is one of the

first counties in California. In 1856 and 1891, parts

were delivered to Tehama County and Glenn County.

The name Colusa is derived from a Native American

tribe living on the western side of the Sacramento River.

 

Geography

According to the Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,995 km², of which 2,980 km² are land and 14 km² (0.48% of the area) are water.
